Continued hard work by Land Rover employees has again enabled the company to donate a brand new Defender to a local community enterprise. Waterloo Woodwork, a timber products factory based in Chelmsley Wood, provides development skills and experience of a working environment for adults with learning difficulties. It became the second organisation to receive a Land Rover vehicle under the 4x4 manufacturer's 'Motor-Vate' programme.

The Human Resources Manager at Land Rover's Solihull factory, Jon West, presented the Defender 110 Station Wagon to representatives from Waterloo Woodwork. The Chelmsley Wood based workshop is operated by Colebridge Trust, a community owned not for profit enterprise, which provides community development services for Solihull. Its products are primarily for outdoor use in gardens, parks and woodlands.

Chief Executive officer, Dave Pinwell, said, "We are very grateful for the support of the Land Rover employees. Some of our projects involve taking significant amounts of timber on site, into parks and wooded areas. To be given a vehicle designed for just that sort of work and built by one of the borough's largest employers is just ideal for us. The team is extremely excited about it. They always get a great deal of benefit from work on site and this will help tremendously."

Jon West said, "Land Rover is delighted that as a result of the Company and Unions working together on improving attendance, we are in a situation where the Company, through the efforts of its employees, has the opportunity to support local worthy causes."

The Motor-Vate scheme is an incentive to improve attendance and savings made by cutting absenteeism are shared with employees and the local community. The Family Care Trust's Newlands Bishop Farm was the first beneficiary of a Land Rover under the scheme back in September 2007 and many other organisations have received generous donations.
