How to find cheaper car insurance
When it comes to renewing your car insurance you should never accept your renewal quote but shop around to see if you really are getting a good deal. But are there ways you could further reduce your premium? Our guide will help explain a few money saving methods to reduce your premiums.
How to reduce your premium
Get the right level of cover – Establish what level of cover you require. If you drive a brand new Land Rover then it is recommended that you have comprehensive cover. If on the other hand your Land Rover is only worth a couple of hundred pounds then going for the cheaper option of either third party or third party fire and theft would be a way of reducing your premium.
Shop around – Compare car insurance quotes from as many companies as possible to ensure you are getting a good deal – using an insurance comparison website will do the hard work for you.
Buy online – Purchasing a policy online reduces the overheads of your insurance company. In turn most insurance companies will pass on this saving in the form of a discount.
Drive a car with a low insurance group – Some Land Rovers have low insurance groups such as the Land Rover 109, 110 and 88 models. However vehicles such as the Discovery or the Range Rover are in higher insurance groups due to higher repair costs.
Improve security – If you can prove to an insurance company that your vehicle is comparatively secure you should be able to earn discounts on your premiums. Measures you can take include the fitting a car alarm and immoboliser, parking your car in a garage overnight and fitting a GPS tracking device.
Avoid claims and convictions – Most car insurance providers offer no claims discounts – so if you stay accident free, you should reap the rewards. It’s important to stay on the right side of the law as two or more speeding convictions could cause your insurance premiums to rise by as much as 74% with some insurers.
Pay annually – If possible it is recommended that you pay for your car insurance annually you will avoid any interest charges.
So where can you find the cheapest car insurance?
Research completed in 2008 by a comparison website found that two providers were tied as the cheapest car insurers on average, Kwik Fit and Swiftcover both produce average premiums of £277. However, it is still worth shopping around as these insurers might not be the cheapest for you taking into account the level of cover you require, your driving history or your occupation.
As well as thinking about the cheapest car insurance consider the level of cover you require too. You might be willing to pay more to be better protected.
Understanding your insurance policy
Before you purchase a policy, it is important that you read through the terms and conditions and understand the policy exclusions as these could prevent you making a claim in the future. Also you should check the excess amounts as this will show you how much you would have to pay in the event of a claim.
